Santa Ursula is another rather luxurious suburb Tenerife base close to Puerto de la Cruz, and indeed just a hop and a skip from Los Rodeos, Tenerife North's Airport. These north Tenerife bases are ideal if you're considering some island hopping, flying via Tenerife North Airport. One week based in Santa Ursula on Tenerife exploring the cultural, historical and rural scenes and sights of the north, including the nearby Orotava Valley, can be followed say by a week's walking in La Gomera's Garajonay National Park or popping over the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for more cultural tours and superb museums!
This attractive town is situated 9km east of Puerto de la Cruz, on the north of the island of Tenerife. The character of this residential area reflects the north’s rich cultural interest, and offers opportunities for exploration of historical and rural scenery.
Santa Ursula is less driven by tourism than other areas and, like its nearby neighbour Puerto de la Cruz, offers more peaceful surroundings. There is ample opportunity to live the life of the locals and sample local delights, enjoying the sunny atmosphere in the town and the activity of its ‘plazas’. Historical features include three temples dating back to 1883 (San Luis, San Bartolome and San Clemente). However, Santa Ursula has also enjoyed tasteful development over recent decades, which can be seen in the sophisticated residential developments of La Quinta and La Quinta Roja.
For those seeking the great outdoors, wander in the splendour of the nearby Orotava Valley or Mount Teide National Park. Agriculture still thrives in the rural areas, producing fine wines and exotic flowers among other things. There are numerous natural attractions, such as the Mencey Bencomo cave – a breathtaking ‘natural balcony’ with views of the Orotava Valley and Tosquita-Corujera area.
Enjoying Tenerife’s enticing year-round climate, Santa Ursula offers a refreshing break - the charm of a historic town combined with breathtaking rural surroundings. |
