Car rental in Tenerife

The thought of going abroad and driving on the ‘wrong’ side of the road used to send shivers down the spine of the average British holiday-maker but now taking a car hire in Tenerife as part of one’s holiday package is quite normal. The road leading out of the airport usually sports a number of nervous drivers trying to change gear with the ‘wrong’ hand, cautiously working up their courage amidst shouts of which way and hurry up tell me where to go. However once on the autopista (motorway) things calm down and the speed increases as the confidence comes back, in no time at all they’re sailing happily along until it’s time to find the junction and to follow the directions to find their hotel or apartment.

Tenerife Car Hire

Car hire in Tenerife is an ever increasing business for those that give good service coupled with competitive pricing; many companies have started with just a few cars and have quickly grown into a viable business. Most Tenerife car hire companies appreciate finding clients who own their own property as this means regular repeat business and consequently a saving on advertising costs; a bonus for the regular customer is that the paperwork can be completed before hand saving valuable time at the airport.

Tenerife car hire has such a bewildering array of companies offering their services that for the first time hirer it’s difficult to choose a company. There are of course all the normal worldwide, well known companies but it is also possible to find legitimate local companies (many run by British citizens) who, because of their lower marketing costs, are willing to compete financially. Car rental in Tenerife is the same as anything else as far as contracts go, i.e. read the small print or better still check that things like insurance is fully comprehensive and that there are no punitive excesses. I know of one company that charges £100 for every panel that’s damaged, there are a lot of panels on the average small car. A sensible move in my opinion is to send a covering letter or e-mail with the booking asking for confirmation of these and any other pertinent questions.

Good Tenerife car rental companies will often supply items such as children’s seats or roof racks free of charge providing there are ordered at the time of booking, a little forethought can save a huge amount of stress and time at the airport; bear in mind that the Tenerife car hire companies get their customers in batches as the flights arrive. A flight arriving at say ten o’clock at night may have ten people all wanting to collect their cars on arrival, it’s just not economically viable to have ten members of staff waiting to serve each customer.

With the advent and acceptance by the general public, of the internet reserving and booking your Tenerife rent a car is so simple; a request can be filled in on the net, sent off by the client and then while working on something else an answer can arrive from the company providing the hire car in Tenerife. It’s so much simpler than writing a letter and posting it or standing at a desk waiting to be served.
